The DRAMA Trip: Japan edition. Part one.

It has come to my attention that I didn’t actually finish my blog post on the Netherlands trip, but you know it was months ago and so many things had happened and I’m just lazy, so whatever, right? Anyway, as you may have known I went on a two week holiday trip to Japan in November to reunite again with my husband on our annual trip! That is why, starting from this post, I will be doing a series of blog posts of our trip to Japan, aptly named, The DRAMA trip.

Whoa, wait, what? Were there drama happening during the trip? Of course not. Though our relationship is not your picture perfect romance, we like to think we’re a good team, we’re compatible with each other and we don’t resolve to fights when we can’t agree on things. Sure we have our petty fights once or twice, but what relationship doesn’t have petty fights, eh? That being said, DRAMA actually is an abbreviation of Dilchh and RAM Annual. And because the complete title is The DRAMA trip, then it actually means The Dilchh and RAM Annual trip! Ha, I surprised myself sometimes.

Since it’s a two weeks trip, I can’t very well make a 14 series of blog posts, can I? Actually I can, but I’m not going to do it. What I’m going to do instead is divide the blog posts into four parts, Tokyo (pt.1), Sapporo, Hakodate, and Tokyo (pt.2), following our real itinerary of the trip.

Alrighty then, now that the introduction is done, I can now go on and divulge the start of the DRAMA trip!

March Bookish Box: Cover Lust

World book day background with kids designed by Freepik

Guys, before April ends, I need to share one good thing that happened in April. Okay, one of them actually.

Remember how I always got my Bookish Box very late? It would take more than 30 days for each box to arrive. At this point, I have made peace with it, because maybe it would take forever for it to arrive. That being said, my ungrateful ass still complains about how could a book shipped from the UK to Indonesia took a month would made more sense because the UK and Indonesia is so freakishly far, than why a book shipped from the US to Colombia would also took a month. It is not that far!

Anyway, something amazing happened, because my March Bookish Box arrived in 24 days after it was shipped! That is the first, especially putting into account that my February Bookish Box arrived one month and 19 days after it was shipped. So, do you get how excited I was about this?

Either way, I got my March Bookish Box early (compared to previous boxes, of course) and i am stoked. But, like all good things, there’s got to be at least one thing to complain about, and this month I’m complaining about the T-shirt’s size, again!

I tried the Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment and I’m confused.

Product image from Amazon

I have been incredibly swamped with work and unnecessary social events that I really didn’t have the time to post another round of me trying out sample products. Just to be clear, I did post some book reviews amidst the chaos that is my life, but let’s be frank here; this blog was supposed to be a book review blog, so surely I should be able to squeeze however small a time I have in writing a book review. That being said, I actually owe two book reviews and instead I chose to write about this confusing experience that I have with Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment (KCET).

I tried L’Occitane Aromachologie Sublime Repairing Oil

Product photo from Beauty Heaven

The second attempt at putting random sample products! This time it’s for my hair. Those who knew me, know that my hair is hopeless. It is what I called a baby’s hair. It is so thin that no amount of gel or hair spray can keep its original form when the wind blows (actually I don’t know, never really tried it). Also, my original hair colour is a  of sad attempt at auburn. Note that I said a sad attempt, because it is sad, because where auburn hair is gorgeous, mine just look like I’ve been spending too much time under the sun, and well actually the colour itself only shows up when I am under the sun or under a bright light. Most days it looks like a dull black.

Okay, that aside, my hair falls out like crazy. I have been supporting a bald patch since high school. On my third year of Uni I decided to chop my hair into a pixie look and I have been having pixie cut (or some variations of it) since a decade ago. There’s nothing to be done for my hair, it is so thin and wispy, and it falls out a lot! That being said, I still like to try hair products, only to see if it actually does anything for my hair. So, when I got the sample for L’Occitane Aromachologie Sublime Repairing Oil (ASRO), I honestly wasn’t expecting much. My hair is quite oily, the idea of putting extra oil on it is just a big no-no.

But, hey, remember what I said about there’s always a first for every free things I can get my hands on?

Besides, it’s just a sample, at most it can only last for up to two days, so there’s no harm in trying, right?

February Bookish Box: Fantasy Friendships

Women walking during sunset photo by Freepik

Alrighty! After one month and 19 days, my February Bookish Box finally arrived! Damn, this is getting ridiculous if you ask me. I am posting about a February box in April. It’s like I don’t even own a calendar. But, rest assured, I do own calendars, plenty of those actually. It’s just that the package itself took days to arrive, that’s why I can’t post about the box on its respective months.

Okay, now that the excuses and the reasoning are out of the way, let’s see what we have February’s theme is.

I’m glad that the theme is Fantasy Friendships, because clearly February is not exclusively the month for lovers, right? As per usual, I subscribe the YA book + t-shirt box, and January’s t-shirt was a fluke because they sent me the wrong size. Thankfully they sent me the correct size this month.

I tried the Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream because I’m curious and a cheapskate.

Product photo from Kiehl’s

I’ve gotten loads of beauty samples over the course of me trying out various beauty products, but it all ended up in piles of trash because what use are those teeny tiny samples? Right? Am I right? Or am I right?

But at the other end of the spectrum, I am a cheapskate, and I always thought there’s always a first for every free products you can get your hands on. So, in the quest of trying out the remaining beauty samples that have not reached its expiry dates, I will be trying it out in random.

This week (oh who am I kidding, this particular sample only last two days, and that is already pushing it) I am trying out the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream that I got for free when I bought Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution. Oh and get this, on Kiehl’s USA websites, the product is priced at USD 55 which should be around COP 154k-ish, but when I bought it in real life, it is actually priced at COP 200k-ish. Such a fucking price hike!

Whatever, we’re here for whatever happened to my face after I tried out the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream (or KUFC, because I am so tired of typing the ultra long name, okay?).

I don’t really consider my facial skin to be sensitive, but I’ll get zits here and there close to my period, and/or sometimes when I’m a bit stressed out. But, I’m not about to put random ass product on my face, because let’s get real here, this is my face we’re talking about. I know I’m not Disney Princess pretty, but I’m not about to willingly ruin it. So, the next best thing I can do is to Google some reviews about the said product.

Okay, not a lot of people are giving high praise for this product, but I’m not deterred yet, until I stumble upon someone’s review about this product and, damn, she was harsh. But, she was very thorough about her review; she lists all the problematic ingredients in this product, and let me tell you, I ain’t doing so well in my chemistry class back in high school, but those chemical in the ingredients creep the shit out of me. But did I stop at that? No!

I went to watch another review of this product in YouTube which is more recent than the article one, and, damn, she’s raising the same issues about the whole chemical stuff (one that I remember and I’m most familiar with is paraben).

Shit, should I not try it then?

Ah, fuck it, it’s a small sample, my face will probably be fine, right?

I’m listening to Backstreet Boys’ Greatest Hits this week.

Album cover from iTunes Apple

The year was 2018 and I was on my way to work when this amazing podcast that I was listening to said that The Call from Backstreet Boys was one of the best song from BSB, ever. And guess what? They were right, because The Call was a classic. It has everything from the really unnecessary phone call in the beginning of the song that sets the story for the whole entire song to the beat and the lyrics.

You know what? From that simple realisation, I went on a rabbit hole to literally listening the Backstreet Boys’ Greatest Hits (aptly titled Chapter One, as if there’s a promise that there will be more chapters in the future), and guess what? I realised that I miss it. I miss listening to sappy and incredibly cringing pop songs back in the 90’s and early 00’s.

That being said, I will now continue by trip down the rabbit hole by laying it out in the open all the songs from Backstreet Boys’ greatest hits album. Ah what a time to be alive. At 30 years old I can now unashamedly admit I do like some of those cringing BSB’s songs, whereas my 13 year old self would never be caught alive listening to BSB. What a rude little shit I was.

I’m liking… Zumbo’s Just Desserts

Life is just generally boring for me the last few weeks after RAM went back to Abuja, but good things aren’t going to come and knocking on your doors; you have to make your own good things. And whilst a good food is sometimes more than enough to make me feel good, other times it could be music, tv shows or just literally could be anything. On that note, I am now seriously thinking of creating a new category, which would be about things that I am currently obsessing about. I don’t know if I can keep this category up, but we’ll have to see. So, what is my current obsession?

January Bookish Box: Galactic Adventures

Though it might not be a galactic adventures, but this January Bookish Box is definitely an adventure on its own. My first foray into subscription box was back in November, and as I have mentioned on the post, the box itself was shipped from the US on the 17th of each month. Mine arrived on literally the last day of November. So, it still counts as November box. I skipped the subscription on December and I re-subscribe for the January box. I thought the same would have happened, that I would get my box on the last day of January, but oh no! The box arrived on 14 February 2018! I legitimately believe that the box was just lost or something. So, that explains the super late review of the January Bookish Box.

And it really doesn’t help that February was just so hectic.
